Truth is a Person

Two weeks ago we gathered together in our new venue (!!!) for the first time in 2017. The topic was ‘Post-Truth’, what it looks like to follow a God of truth when the truth seems to be so blurry these day (see: alternative facts and fake news), or when truth seems to matter less in light of people’s emotions. The Bible and the Newspaper

For a number of years now I’ve loved the Karl Barth quote about how we as Christians are called to hold the “Bible in one hand, and the newspaper in the other.” I think it holds a number of ideas pertinent to living as the people of God in 2017.

We believe that the scriptures reveal truths about who God is, but also about how he calls us to live as his peculiar and redeemed people. Continue reading

These are my reflections since our last Grace Collective Event: FOMO. The fear of missing out is something which plagues our generation. We over commit in capacity and under commit in quality, or we do nothing because we cannot decide what to do! At our event we had three guest speakers who challenged us on how this attitude aligns (or doesn’t) with the kind of life that Jesus calls us to. I personally was inspired by the stories from those who have given up pursuing multiple dreams and chosen to commit to something through all kinds of seasons, who don’t just duck out when things get tough or boring. This is so counter-cultural in our society! So counter-cultural to my life so far! So here is my rant: Continue reading

The Grace Collective presents: GOALS

Are you a new year resolution list-maker? Have you got dreams of making that Big Change this year? Or are you just hoping to scrape through 2016 with some degree of success?

GC Goals

At the beginning of a new year it is a great time to make goals for the days ahead. Get straight As. Buy a car. Travel more. Pray more. Land your dream job.

However research shows that – no matter how well intentioned we are – by July most of us will have bailed on our goals. So where are we going wrong? Why is it so hard to turn our dreams into reality? Is it possible that we have been going about it the wrong way?  What if Jesus has some even better goals in mind for us?

Join us for the GC guide to goals – our amazing line up of speakers will share their stories and wisdom on making goals that are worth keeping.

Wednesday 9 March, 7.30pm at Crave, McDonald St, Kingsland

See you there!

Refugees Are Welcome (#squadgoals)

squad postcard (2)We had something very cool underway for our upcoming event ‘SQUAD’ involving #squadgoals, deeper friendships, cliques and being welcoming – particularly being welcoming of ‘outsiders’ the revolutionary way that Jesus was.

Then the refugee crisis blew up in the media and that made us realise – there’s an even bigger conversation we could be having right now, and something very real that we could be doing about it. Continue reading
